Connecting Local Community Leaders and
Partner Community Centers with Influencers
in the Field Hockey Community…
Program Purpose
Field hockey is unrepresented in underserved areas, but can be a vehicle for opportunity. Field Hockey Connects (FHC) aims to bring opportunities to children in underserved areas by connecting local community leaders & community centers with influencers in the field hockey community through the game.
FHC has a goal to help create and support enduring field hockey programs in underserved areas, thereby, creating consistent exposure to opportunities that can inspire and help shape the future of our underserved youth.
Program Structure
FHC expects this to be an ‘evergreen’ experience with continual learning and considerable flexibility dictated by the local environment.
FHC will look to make connections and guide the local partnership by garnering local support and volunteerism, program design, and education on barriers/aids to allow for a sustainable field hockey program.
FHC will be deliberate in rallying local volunteerism and connecting them with Partner Community Centers (PCCs).
The structure of the program will be dependent on 1) amount of local volunteerism available, 2) amount of staff assistance from the partner community center, and 3) facilities available.
The recommendation is to have a program with an ‘indoor field hockey’ design which allows it to be played on gym floors, basketball courts, tennis courts, parking lots, etc.
How We, as Partners, Will Succeed:
Educate others about the game of field hockey
Educate about the opportunities field hockey has to offer
Create avenues for our underserved youth so they can benefit from those opportunities
Engage with the field hockey community to provide equipment for the Partner Community Center (PCC)-based field hockey programs
Collaborate between PCC and FHC to develop an engaging, enduring program design
Create events with field hockey influencers to inspire our underserved youth
Create connections between PCCs and local field hockey influencers to ensure enduring programs
Empower PCCs to consistently use field hockey as a connection to the future of our underserved youth
